Diflucan, also know as Fluconazole is an anti-fungal medication that used to treat vaginal candidacies, Cryptococcus meningitis, urinary tract infections, Oropharyngeal and esophageal candidacies. It is very effective medicine to treat infections that caused by fungus, which can invade any part of the body (mouth, throat, lungs, bladder, esophagus, genitals and the blood).
How Taken
The usual dose of Diflucan is 50-400 mg per day, depending of the infection type. Vaginal infections are often treated with 1 pill of Diflucan. For other heavy infections the first dose may be a double dose. Follow your doctor’s instructions, and contact him (her) if your symptoms do not improve. Diflucan comes as a capsule and liquid form. Drink the pills of Diflucan with full glass of water, and shake it well if you use the liquid form.
More Information
It is very important to use Diflucan for the entire length of treatment; your symptoms may get better before the infection is completely cured. Diflucan will not treat any viral infections such as flu or common cold. Avoid or limit usage of alcoholic beverages during the treatment course. Be careful when driving or operating machinery, if you experience drowsiness or dizziness –stop doing these activities.
Warning/Precautions
Follow your doctor's directions about any beverages, food or activity restrictions. Don’t take Diflucan if you are undergoing treatment with cisapride /Propulsid/. These 2 drugs together may cause serious heart problems, due to fatal end. Pregnant woman should use Diflucan only doctor’s approval. Before taking Diflucan, let your doctor know your medical history, especially if you have a kidney disease etc.
Possible Side Effects
Diflucan may cause the following side effects: headache, dizziness, skin rash, itching, unpleasant taste in the mouth, fever, chills, seizure (convulsion), unusual weakness, nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, body aches, flu symptoms and yellowing of the skin or eyes. If you experience any of these or any other unlikely effects, contact your doctor or seek medical care.
